KCS Evaluation
This page will guide you through the process of operating and evaluating Klippel Controlled Sound (KCS). KCS is an adaptive software solution featuring nonlinear speaker control, active speaker protection, linear and nonlinear distortion reduction, automatic system alignment and much more. You find more information about features and capabilities of this technology on the Klippel Homepage.
Evaluation Process
Step 1: Choose suitable KCS evaluation hardware platform

If suitable for your application, we strongly recommend to acquire Nuvoton's NAD hardware, bundled with a reference speaker in Nuvoton's online store. The shortest time to market is possible with Nuvoton hardware, since KCS is already fully integrated into silicon. Together with a reference speaker, this will allow you to assess the full potential of KCS, together with the opportunities of Green Speaker Design (Application Note 82).
Step 2: KCS Initial parameter identification
This step is required if you want to run KCS with a new type of speaker.
➥ Note that if you have received a reference speaker together with your KCS hardware, this step has already been performed and you can directly start with step 3.
➥ If you do not have access to the required hardware Klippel Analyzer 3, alternative solutions are available. Please contact sales(at)klippel(dot)de.
For operating KCS, initial KCS parameters are required. They describe the particular speaker model and your chosen KCS hardware platform. The speaker is measured using the KLIPPEL software module KCS-ID Parameter Identification which runs on the KLIPPEL Analyzer 3. The recorded signals are sent to the KCS Server which identifies the linear and nonlinear speaker, amplifier and calibration parameters and stores them in a KCS Monitor operation. Now they are ready to be uploaded to your target DSP, which is done in the next step.
Step 3: Operating and tuning KCS on your hardware
The software module KCS Monitor from Klippel is your operational interface to KCS.
In this section we will show how to:
- Operate KCS
- Listen to music
- Get diagnostic information from amp and DUT
- Set up speaker alignment and equalization with KCS
- Find the limits of your full audio system
- Tune KCS settings to optimize performance
Step 4: Objective measurements and subjective evaluation
Make sure that KCS is operating as intended and perform objective evaluation measurements using critical test stimuli.
In five tutorials we will go through how to use software modules of the KLIPPEL Analyzer System to
1. Check the setup
2. Measure frequency response
3. Evaluate active speakers
4.Check the protection system
5. Assess multitone distortion reduction
In addition, we provide guidance on how to unveil Rub&Buzz issues.
You can also perform listening evaluation on your favorite music or program material in your desired target environment.
