Holographic Measurement of Sound Radiation Behaviour of Personal Device (Presenter: Shuo He)

Personal devices like smart phones and tablets are gaining popularity in recent years. But there is no mature measurement method of the sound radiation behaviour of the personal devices. The traditional far field measurement is not applicable, because the personal devices are usually working in the near field. With the holographic scanner from Klippel we can obtain the 3D sound pattern in both near field and far field. The near field performance can be analysed according to various personal hearing zones. The measurement result can inspire new innovations in optimizing the hearing experience of the personal devices.


Holographic Measurement of Electroacoustic Transducers in a Baffle (Presenter: Xiangqiong Zeng)

To measure eletroacoustic transducers under standardized conditions, the device is usually mounted in a baffle, which avoids the acoustical shortcut between front and backward sound. Because of practical limitation of the baffle size, diffraction effects causes ripples in the frequency response. Especially at low frequencies the measurement is very inaccurate, because of both insufficient damping of the anechoic room (IEC602648-5) and limited dimensions of the baffle. A solution is the holographic approach, using spherical harmonics and Hankel functions to approximate the sound pattern in the near field. The measurement is conducted on multiple layers so both room reflections and diffraction can be separated from the direct radiation.In a word, with the holographic technique the baffle can be measured in a normal room without the traditionally known problems.
