Scanning Vibrometer System (SCN)

The SCN Vibrometer measures the vibration and geometry of radiators, enclosures and mechanical structures used in loudspeakers, micro-speakers, headphones and other electro-acoustical or electro-mechanical transducers.
The SCN Analysis Software performs visualization, animation and a modal analysis of the mechanical vibration using the scanned data which is provided by the vibrometer. The sound pressure output at any point in the half-space sound field and the polar radiation characteristic is predicted by using mechanical data. Novel decomposition techniques show radial and circular modes and vibration components related to the SPL output. It is the target of the analysis to provide a better understanding of the interaction between vibration and radiation.

Example

Midrange driver with special honeycomb cone structure

At 6kHz there is a significant dip in the on axis sound pressure response. The inner and outer cone region vibrate in phase opposition and the resulting volume flows cancel each other out. The reason is a good bending moment propagation between the inner and outer cone due to the stiff honeycomb membrane which leads to this distinct vibration mode.

The SCN Interface for FEA/BEA allows exporting and importing scanning data in various data formats. The measured cone geometry is provided in DXF and STL format at high precision. This might be useful for checking the geometrical variations in the quality control and for investigating design choices by performing an FEA using any third-party software. The measured vibration data can also be exported for further analysis with third-party software or imported from external sources for processing with the SCN Analysis Software.

Optional module: Radiation Area SD

Radiation Area SD

The Module Radiation Area SD provides an accurate result for the effective radiation area SD, particularly for small drivers and asymmetric driver shapes.

  • Calculate the effective radiation area SD from measured scanning data
  • Perform an averaging of Hx for a selected radius

Optional module: Sound Power / Directivity

Directivity

The Sound Power Module can calculate the sound power radiation into the half space without requiring a special acoustic room.

  • Calculate the Sound Power Level
  • Decomposition into radial and circumferential vibration components
  • Calculate the Directivity Index DI

Optional module: FEA2SCN

FEA to Scanning Vibrometer System by iCapture

 

FEA2SCN are modules to link Finite Element Analyses with the Klippel Scanner Analysis (SCN System). 

- Interpolation of data from non-structured FEA-meshes

- Allow acoustic and acceleration decomposition of FEA-results

- Support for 2D and 3D models exploiting possible symmetries

- Include simulation of electromagnetic motor system (T/S parameters) 

- Eliminates unacceptable long computational run-times of 3D non-axisymmetric transducers, passive radiators, loudspeaker cabinets, etc.

FEA2SCN is supported for ANSYS and COMSOL Multiphysics.

The SCN Vibrometer comprises the following components:

  • 3D Scanner (3 actuators move the laser in polar coordinates)
  • Motor Control Hardware
  • SCN Analysis Software
  • Cables
